Edinburgh Airport Guide

Edinburgh-AirportEdinburgh Airport was originally a military airport – Turnhouse Aerodrome – and the Scottish still call the airport by this name. The airport has been renovated in the past few years, including an expansion of the number of parking places and a larger Arrivals Hall. It is a fast growing airport that is expected to process 26 million passengers per year by 2030. A new futuristic looking control tower was opened in 2005.

Local Transport

Train

There is still no train connection between Edinburgh and the airport. Construction of a light rail between the western districts of Edinburgh and the center was started in 2007. The line will ultimately be extended to the airport and is expected to be completed in 2009.

Car and bus

The airport is 12 kilometers west of Edinburgh along the A8 that leads to the center of the city. The clearly indicated exit to the airport is between two roundabouts (Gogar and Newbridge).

Buses frequently leave from the bus station by the Arrivals Hall to the center of Edinburgh (the central station close to Waverley Bridge). These buses also stop at Haymarket train station.

Car rental – Edinburgh Airport
